Details

The best way to cut the angles you need to make kumiko patterns is with a chisel and a guide block. The chisel’s back lays flat on the guide’s reference surface when you make the final pass over the infill piece, ensuring that the bevel is at the correct angle. Each guide surface has its own independent stop, so you can quickly make dozens of identical pattern pieces rather than attempting to fit them individually. The stops are designed so that you don't need to reset them for one surface to use another, to minimize how often you must move the locking screw, and accommodate a wide range of part sizes. Made from soft maple.

Note that you can add un-notched strips to any order of a guide block.

To make the asa-no-ha pattern in a square frame, you need blocks C & D. To make it in a hexagonal frame, you need block B, but the 30º and 60º guide surfaces are required for a number of square frame patterns as well, like the tortoiseshell. If you aren’t sure you’re ready to make a frame and strips for the pattern, check out the panel kits I sell (the blocks you need for each kit are listed in the kit’s description).

Does not include the lovely chisel, dozuki, panels, or strips shown in the photographs.
